Qual o papel da alergia na otite média serosa?

Resumo

A otite média serosa (OMS) define-se pela presença de líquido no ouvido médio (OM). Este trabalho tem como objectivo avaliar o papel da alergia na OMS. Foi efectuada uma pesquisa no motor de busca PubMed. Para avaliar a relação entre a OMS e a alergia foram considerados: factores epidemiológicos, conteúdo celular e imunológico do derrame e da mucosa do OM e efeito do tratamento da alergia na OMS. Os dados epidemiológicos são controversos. A presença de células e citocinas de perfil T helper 2 (Th2) no derrame e mucosa do OM está provada nos doentes alérgicos com OMS. O tratamento da rinite alérgica com corticoterapia não tem efeito a longo prazo na OMS mas a imunoterapia parece alterar o curso desta doença. O rastreio da doença alérgica é importante em todos os doentes com OMS, principalmente naqueles que são refractários ao tratamento cirúrgico.
